Sutherland Shire Council has worked closely with NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), our community and other stakeholders to prepare a revised Draft Sutherland Shire Overland Flow – Flood Study 2026.
This Study forms part of the NSW Government’s Flood Prone Land Policy, which requires councils across New South Wales to better understand and manage flood risk.
If your property has been identified in the revised Draft Study, you can expect to receive a letter within the first two weeks of the consultation period.

Following the earlier stage of consultation, we are now seeking feedback on the 2026 Draft Study. We invite community members and stakeholders to review the updated findings and recommendations, understand what the Study means for your property or local area, and share any feedback to inform the final Study.
If your property has been identified in the revised Draft Study, you can expect to receive a letter within the first two weeks of the consultation period.
The consultation period is from 31 July until 25 September 2026. You can share your feedback in the following ways:

Next steps
All submissions will be reviewed and considered by the project team to inform a final version of the 2026 Draft Overland Flow – Flood Study before it is considered by Council for adoption. While aspects of the Study are guided by State Government requirements, your feedback is important in helping us to understand local perspectives before the Study is finalised. We will provide a summary of what we heard from our community on this page following the consultation period.

The Draft Study and supporting reports contain detailed flood modelling and analysis prepared by specialist engineers. As these documents contain complex technical information, some sections may use terminology and concepts that are unfamiliar to those without a flood engineering background.
