FAQ
What happens after I submit a name suggestion?
Once entries close, a judging panel
will assess submissions against Council's Naming Policy and the
Geographical Names Board's guidelines. One name in each category will be
shortlisted and the community will be invited to vote for their preference on
the top three names. Council
will submit the preferred entry to the Geographical Names Board (GNB) of NSW
for endorsement.
Are there any names that won’t be considered?
The approval process requires proposed names to be consistent with the Geographical Names Board’s Naming Guidelines – which can be viewed here.
The Geographical Names Board has supplied a list of park names classified as “generic” and they will not be accepted. The list of unacceptable names can be found here.
Submissions that may cause offence or defame others will also not be considered.
Do I need to be a resident of South Village to participate in naming the park?
The community park is there for everyone to enjoy. Entry to the naming competition is open for all residents and visitors to Sutherland Shire.
How do I find out if my submission is shortlisted?
Those entrants who are shortlisted to the final three will be notified in late January 2020 by phone or email.
