Heathcote Oval is a key recreational area for the Sutherland Shire, surrounded by the Royal National Park. Council is looking at ways to improve how the space is used and provide better opportunities for recreation.
Council has prepared a draft Masterplan for Heathcote Oval to guide its future use. Our focus is on maintaining open space, improving connection, accessibility and protecting the natural qualities of the area.
We consulted with the community in late 2021 and have been working closely with key stakeholders. Feedback we have received has helped shape the plan.
Improvement opportunities proposed in the draft Masterplan include:
Dog off-leash area
Carpark upgrade
Entry road upgrade and a shared pedestrian/cycle path
Building accessibility improvements
Picnic facilities
Hard surface multi-sport courts, outdoor fitness equipment and cricket nets
Lighting improvements
Perimeter walking track
Clubhouse and amenity upgrades
Tree and revegetation planting.
