New proposed Foreshore Reserve at The Esplanade, Sylvania

Consultation period: 7 to 28 May 2021

Council has recently acquired the property at 1R The Esplanade, Sylvania and will transform it into a reserve to be enjoyed by our community.

The reserve will provide public access to the foreshore with views across Oyster Bay. The area contains endangered saltmarsh vegetation and unique Aboriginal shell middens. The project will conserve these important features and use interpretive signage to promote the natural and cultural heritage values.

The concept plan for the foreshore reserve includes:

• Seating
• Picnic tables
• Shade
• Open space
• Interpretive signage
• Access steps with handrail
• Preservation of the area’s natural and cultural values.

Next steps

Following community feedback on the concept design, Council will consolidate and come back to the community with a finalised design for the reserve. It is expected that work will start on the foreshore reserve in late 2021.
