Draft Public Domain Strategy

Consultation period: 26 October – 24 November 2022

Council is seeking community feedback on its Draft Public Domain strategy to ensure it reflects the evolving demands and requirements for public domain in Sutherland Shire.

The ‘public domain’ here comprises of the footpath/ verge areas in streets, as well as structured gathering places, such as retail centre pavements including Cronulla Plaza and Engadine Town Square.

One of its main actions is to develop precinct plans for Sutherland, Caringbah and Miranda, and investigate the feasibility of precinct plans for Jannali and Engadine.

In 2021 Council asked the community for input into public domain Town Centres. The results of that consultation can be found here. In August and September 2022, we asked the community for feedback on Public Domain Lighting needs and service standards. The results of both consultations have informed the Draft Public Domain Strategy.

The Objectives of the Draft Public Domain Strategy centre around three Focus Areas:

1. Places for everyone - provide places that are safe, inclusive, accessible and conveniently connected in and around our town centres utilising the active transport network.

2. Places to spend time - provide comfortable attractive and sustainable town centres that feel safe and inviting both day and night.

3. Places that prosper - provide a setting for social activity – a place for walking, gathering, shopping, dining, business, recreation and relaxation.

We are now seeking your feedback on the Draft Public Domain Strategy before it is finalised and presented to Council for adoption.
