Sutherland Shire Climate Strategy

At Council we are committed to our environment and being sustainable for generations to come. In March 2020, we resolved to become a net zero emitter of greenhouse gases in our operations by 2030 and in the community by 2050. This means we are aiming to have an equal amount of greenhouse gases being released (like carbon and methane) to that being reduced, resulting in an overall zero increase in emissions.

We are developing a Climate Strategy for Sutherland Shire to set targets for reductions, implement actions and track success. Our Strategy will be in line with the framework of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy network (we joined In April 2021) and state governments net-zero goals.
