Sutherland Shire Council is searching for unsung heroes in our community and we need your help to identify them.

Each year, Council’s Australia Day Awards celebrate some of the incredible contributions from residents to our community.

If you know someone whose selfless and often unheralded work helps make the Sutherland Shire a more remarkable place to live, we want you to share this with us.

Nominate an award recipient for the 2022 Australia Day Awards and find out more about the award categories below. Nominations close 10 November 2021.

What are the Award Categories?

The Award categories are:

Citizen of the Year is awarded to a Sutherland Shire citizen who has achieved the most distinguished performance and/or made the most outstanding contribution to the Shire community during 2020/2021.

Young Citizen of the Year is awarded to a Sutherland Shire citizen (25 or younger as at 26/1/2021) who has achieved the most distinguished performance and/or made the most outstanding contribution to the Shire community during 2020/2021.

Community Group of the Year is awarded to an organised community group based in the Sutherland Shire, which has made the most outstanding contribution to the local community during 2020/2021.

Environmental Citizen of the Year is awarded to a Sutherland Shire citizen or community group recognising outstanding environmental achievements in the local community during 2020/2021.

Young Environmental Citizen of the Year is awarded to a Sutherland Shire citizen or community group (25 or younger as at 26/1/2021) recognising outstanding environmental achievements in the local community during 2020/2021.

How do I nominate a Person or Community Group?

Simply fill out the form below. Nominations:

  • must include between 100 and 300 words outlining why the nominee should be considered for an award
  • must provide a photo of the Nominee (please note, information and photographs provided will be used on Council's website)
  • may be made by an individual or organisation.
