Rawson Avenue Cycleway and Footpath Upgrade Stage1

An upgrade of Rawson Avenue's cycleway and footpath infrastructure is needed to improve the connectivity and safety of pedestrians and cyclists travelling between the Sutherland town centre and the Sutherland Leisure Centre facilities, Sporting Fields and Education and Economic precinct. Improvements to these facilities will reinforce the shire's cycling and footpath network and help encourage greater active transport use.
Stage 1 of this project focuses on scoping the project, undertaking a review of environmental factors (REF) and consulting with key stakeholders to develop a concept design for Council to consider and endorse prior to detailed design and construction activity is undertaken.

Scoping of the project, site investigations and studies undertaken to indentify and evaluate potential impacts. Invstigations and studies undertaken include car parking survey of Rawson Ave incl. Leisure Centre and Waratah Park Sports Precinct (weekday and week end, peak and off peak event demand), cycling and pedestrian movement survey, Heritage assessment of avenue trees and infrastructure features, accident history etc.

Rawson Avenue Cycleway and Footpath Upgrade Stage1 is currently at this stage
In 2015 a concept Master Plan was developed in consultation
with key stakeholders and endorsed by Council at its meeting on the 20
June 2016. Council now intends to undertake further detailed
design and progress to the first stages of construction in 2016/17.
As part of refining the Master
Plan prior to detailed design and project staging Council are welcoming community comment and feedback on the project. The Master Plan will be on public exhibition between XX July 2016 and xx August 2016.

Following community consultation a final design and staging of construction will be carried out. The works are anticipated to take 3 years to
complete.
