Draft Urban Tree and Bushland Policy 2021

Consultation has concluded

Consultation period:

Monday 23 August to Monday 4 October 2021

Council is updating its Urban Tree and Bushland Policy and seeking feedback from community members on the draft Policy.

The Policy provides a framework for how Council will appropriately manage urban trees and bushland across Sutherland Shire to ensure we maintain a high quality of life for our community and future generations.

What's changing?

  • Council are introducing a policy to guide the management of public trees and bushland in the Sutherland Shire.
  • The Policy provides principles and strategic direction to holistically manage the life-cycle of public trees for the benefit of current and future generations.
  • It introduces an additional review process for tree decisions on public and private land.
  • It introduces vandalism guidelines for enforcement action.

Note: This policy does not make tree removal easier on private land as the Sutherland Shire Development Control Plan chapter 39 still applies to both development and tree permit applications.
