Playground renewal and consolidation – Eltham Place Reserve and Sesquicentenary Park, Heathcote
Consultation period: 7 March to 7 April 2024
The much-loved playground at Eltham Place Reserve, Heathcote is due for renewal and we are seeking our community’s input as we prepare the design of the new play space.
The playground at Heathcote Sesquicentenary Park, located a 5-minute walk (480m) away, is also at the end of its serviceable life. It has been identified that this park lacks passive surveillance with limited visibility from the street, resulting in anti-social behaviour and repeat instances of vandalism.
We have reviewed the suitability of all playground locations as part of a Shire-wide analysis, to ensure they are in the right locations, fairly distributed across all areas and cater for our community’s needs now and in the future. You can read more about the playground analysis in the FAQs.
In the case of Heathcote, there are three playgrounds within close proximity to each other. Sesquicentenary Park is located 480m from Eltham Place Reserve, and Boronia Grove Reserve playground is 580m away from Eltham Place Reserve. As such, Council has endorsed a proposal to consolidate Eltham Place Reserve and Sesquicentenary Park to provide a play space with an increased range of play equipment catering to a wider range of ages. All homes within east Heathcote will continue to have walkable access to a playground.
The proposed changes include:
upgrading the playground at Eltham Place Reserve with an increased range of play equipment (climbing, sliding and swinging elements) and shade
consolidating the playground at Heathcote Sesquicentenary Park with the playground at Eltham Place Reserve and restoring Sesquicentenary Park to open space.
