Why is Council preparing a Golf Facilities Plan?
Council is committed to providing our community with opportunities to stay active. Developing a Golf Facilities Plan is one of the key priorities in our Sport Strategy and Implementation Plan.
The Plan will review the golf facilities in Sutherland Shire to guide investment and improvements in line with future population needs.
Which golf courses are included in the plan?
The Golf Facilities Plan will include a review of the three public golf facilities in Sutherland Shire:
The Plan will also consider the provision of golf across other private facilities, including:
Will the golf courses change in use?
There is no intention to change the use of golf courses to anything other than open space for community purposes at this stage. Incorporating other active and community uses may be considered depending on the outcome of the review.
What consultation with the community has been done so far?
Council asked for input from the community in 2021 as we prepared the Sport Strategy and Implementation Plan, and again in 2022 when we shared the draft Strategy. The community feedback that we received about golf will be considered as we prepare the Golf Facilities Plan.
Council has already began consulting key stakeholder groups including clubs, facility managers, lease holders, state organisations and the Sport and Active Communities Sub-Committee. Stakeholder workshops will be held in May 2024.
