Draft Jannali Public Domain Plan

Consultation has now closed on this project. The Jannali Public Domain Plan was adopted by Council on 23 March 2026.

Read the adopted plan here.

Background

Public spaces like footpaths, plazas and shared gathering areas play a big role in how we experience daily life in our town centres.

Sutherland Shire Council has been working to improve these spaces through its long-term Public Domain Strategy — a plan that supports safe, welcoming and well-connected places across the Shire. As part of this, the community shared ideas for improving local centres, including Jannali.

Council engaged Place Score to carry out surveys and on-the-ground assessments in Jannali in 2024, building on earlier community feedback gathered in 2020 and 2021.

These insights have shaped the draft Jannali Public Domain Plan, which sets out a shared vision for Jannali’s public spaces. The plan focuses on practical improvements to the streets and spaces we use every day.

The aim is to support local life, encourage active use of streets and places, and create a safer, greener and more welcoming environment — making it easier to meet friends, grab a coffee, shop locally or walk to the station.

  • Jannali Public Domain Plan Adopted

We are pleased to let you know that Council adopted a Public Domain Plan for the Jannali Town Centre at the Council meeting in March 2026.

This is the first Public Domain Plan to be adopted by Council and followed an extensive community engagement process. Thank you to everyone that was part of this process.

    Read the adopted plan

Some key aspects of this plan include:

    • increasing pedestrian accessibility, safety and amenity with new footpaths, improvements and upgraded street furniture
    • widening footpaths to support outdoor trading and free community seating areas
    • enhancing station surrounds, including through walking connections, waiting areas, plaza spaces and end of trip amenity
    • improving parks and green open areas, refinement of vegetation to express the village character, increase street trees and maintenance of green spaces
    • providing additional parking opportunities for centre customers
    • improving maintenance and cleanliness of public domain amenities, such as toilets
    • replanting garden beds with enhanced landscaping that contributes to visual character
    • improving wayfinding to and around the centre.

The Jannali Public Domain Plan is accompanied by a detailed implementation plan. Where the implementation action plan indicates the action is funded this means it will be delivered within existing operational expenditure budgets for the given year or within an existing rolling capital program of works.

An unfunded item will be considered for funding via a prioritisation process in the annual capital planning and budgeting process.
