Open Space and Play Strategies and Implementation Plans

Consultation period: 19 July to 30 August 2021

Council consulted with the community on open spaces and play services in the Sutherland Shire between 23 December 2020 to 14 February 2021. This feedback has helped shape the development of our draft strategies and plans for open space and play in the Sutherland Shire for the next 10 years and beyond.

The Open Space Strategy and Implementation Plan outlines the key outcomes which will contribute to enhancing active lives in our unique and valued open spaces. Open spaces are parks and bushland managed by Council. The Strategy has four key areas of focus:

  • open spaces now and into the future
  • providing open space for everyone
  • ensuring we get best value for our open space
  • protecting our environment and heritage.

The Play Strategy and Implementation Plan is all about enhancing the opportunity for everyone in our community to experience play. Play is playgrounds and play spaces (eg. skate parks, outdoor fitness equipment, outdoor basketball courts) for children, youth and adults. The Strategy has three key areas of focus:

  • play spaces now and into the future
  • providing play for everyone
  • ensuring we get best value for our play facilities.
