Playground Renewal at Mansion Point Reserve Grays Point

Consultation has concluded

The playspace at Mansion Point Reserve (corner of Kingfisher Crescent and Mansion Point Road, Grays Point) is planned for renewal in 2019-2020.

Proposed work includes:

  • Replacing play equipment with new equipment, compliant to current Australian Standards;
  • Increasing the range of play opportunities (eg. dinky/bike track); and
  • Providing improved amenity for carers and children (eg. seats)

The existing playground is nestled amongst a number of mature trees which are in good health. The existing equipment will be removed from the site, with the exception of the swings which are in good condition and will be retained.

However, the construction of a renewed playground in its current location raises concerns over disrupting tree root systems, which could have negative impacts upon tree health in the long term. For this reason, a new playground location within Mansion Point Reserve is proposed.

Two options have been identified for the location of the renewed equipment, as shown in the map to the right of the page. Click here to view. The options are summarised below:

OPTION A

  • Level pedestrian access from road
  • Retains flat open space area of site (near Option B) for casual ball sports
  • Requires fencing along Mansion Point Road boundary
  • Natural shade nearby
  • Dinky bike track around play equipment is possible with tree removal/pruning, with potential
connection to future footpath (subject to Council’s Footpath Program)

OPTION B

  • Central location within park, with good connection to adjacent flat open space area
  • Nestled within the reserve with natural shade nearby
  • Dinky bike track around play equipment may be possible (subject to final impact
    assessment by Arborist)

Council would like to hear from you to get a better understanding of which option is preferred. There are two ways you can provide feedback:

  • Drop-in Information Session - Saturday 19th October, 10 - 11am, Mansion Point Reserve, Grays Point
  • Online survey - complete the survey below by 22 October.
