Horderns Beach - Berm Management Feasibility Assessment - May 2020

Horderns Beach. View of the Berm to the beach

OVERVIEW

Following adoption of the Bundeena Creek Flood Study in 2014, and subsequent Bundeena Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan in 2019, Council has engaged engineering consultants Advisian to prepare a feasibility assessment and design for works to manage the berm of Horderns Beach near the creek entrance. The works would involve lowering the level of the berm so that floodwaters can readily escape to the ocean during times of heavy rainfall, thereby reducing the level of upstream flooding across Bundeena. Investigations to date indicate that ongoing management of the berm would be an effective measure for reducing flood impacts in Bundeena, while also performing well against social, economic, and environmental assessment criteria.

In developing the berm management design and protocols, consideration will be given to a range of factors including:

  • Flooding and berm erosion
  • Coastal processes including beach geomorphology
  • Optimisation of the design to balance the outcomes against potential impacts, while also minimising costs and achieving community support.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

The views from the community will be considered in all facets of the design and we encourage local residents and business owners to review the Berm Management Feasibility Assessment and Design Flyer in the document library and provide feedback.

We are seeking feedback on the Berm Management Feasibility Assessment and how you currently use Horderns Beach until the 6 June 2020.

Feedback can be submitted: Online using the survey form below or by email to jslater@ssc.nsw.gov.au
