Draft Domestic Squalor and Hoarding Policy

Consultation period: 5 February – 3 March 2024

Council is committed to being a key stakeholder in cases of domestic squalor and hording. The Draft Domestic Squalor and Hoarding Policy outlines our commitment to fair and transparent handling of identified domestic squalor and hoarding cases within the Sutherland Shire community.

Council will become involved when there is a risk to public health and safety, or adjoining property owner’s amenity is being impacted upon. This includes assisting in finalising long-term and / or complex squalor / hoarding issues.

Following community consultation, Council will review and consider all feedback. Some changes may be made to the policy. It will then be finalised and reported to Council for adoption. We will keep interested members of the community updated.
