Draft Community Venues Strategy

Consultation period: 11 November - 9 December

Community venues play a critical role for Sutherland Shire’s community to connect, learn, play, celebrate and access services and programs.

As our population grows and changes, so do our needs and interests. To ensure we have the community spaces that respond to local needs and interests, Council has prepared a draft Community Venues Strategy.

The strategy outlines four key focus areas (1. Enable a network model, 2. Enhance the quality of our venues, 3. Promote and activate our venues, 4. Collaborate with our community), that contribute to enhancing the liveability, inclusivity, collective resilience and wellbeing of Sutherland Shire, along with ensuring our resources are put to best use.

This Strategy will guide how we plan for, deliver, and manage our community venues for the next 10 years.

What our community told us

In April and May 2022, we asked our community how they currently use, and would like to use, community venues and what they thought about the draft vision and principles in the strategy.

More than 700 people across all ages contributed to online surveys and focus groups to help shape the strategy. See a summary of feedback here.

We are now seeking community feedback on the draft Community Venues Strategy before it is finalised and presented to Council for adoption.
