Draft Code of Meeting Practice and Public Forum Policy

Consultation period: 4 April to 16 May 2022

Council has drafted a revised Code of Meeting Practice and Public Forum Policy to ensure greater access and transparency for the community in Council meetings.

The purpose of the Draft Public Forum Policy is to provide members of the community with the relevant process and procedures for addressing Council on items to be considered at Ordinary Council meetings, as outlined in Council’s Draft Code of Meeting Practice.


Key points and changes to the Code of Meeting Practice are:

  • Council will live stream video and audio of Council and Standing Committee Meetings. This means members of the community will have more accessibility in the decision-making process of Council.
  • Councillors will be able to attend Meetings remotely via an audio-visual link.
  • All voting at Council Meetings, (including meetings that are closed to the public), will be recorded in the minutes providing a further level of transparency.

The purpose of the Public Forum Policy is to provide members of the community with the relevant process and procedures for addressing Council on items to be considered at Ordinary Council meetings. The key change in the Public Forum Policy is:

  • Public Forum applicants will be able to attend Meetings remotely via an audio-visual link which will enable the Public Forum to be more accessible to the community.
