What will be provided in the new upgrade?
Barden Ridge Park has been identified as a district level
park as it is adjacent to the school and there is future planning for a
shopping centre adjacent. District level parks include facilities such as
playgrounds, seats, shelters, bins and landscaping.
Will there be playground equipment in the park upgrade?
Yes.
A children’s playground will be installed as part of the upgrade. Equipment will generally be aimed at children
0-10 years old but may include older age groups depending on the results of
community consultation. It will include
swings and equipment for sliding, climbing and hanging for the development of
fine and gross motor skills. A dinky path for young children may also be
provided. The feedback from this community consultation period will help us
decide on the type of play equipment to include.
What type of undersurfacing (softfall) will be used?
Council
uses a variety of softfall undersurfacing including play bark, rubber wetpour,
synthetic grass and sand. Council’s
preferred softfall is play bark because it is cost effective and excellent at
reducing the impact of falls.
Will there be a shade structure?
A shade structure will be included over the children’s playground. Additional trees will also be planted around the park to provide shade.
Will there be a barbeque?
No. Barbecues are only provided where a toilet block is available as people tend to stay at these reserves longer.
Will the bush be removed?
Bushland areas are important for their environmental, recreational and educational value and they also contribute to the amenity and attractiveness of a park. The aim will be to conserve bushland areas. Selective thinning may be undertaken if pathways are constructed.
Will there be disruptions to traffic and parking?
The land is being developed as a public park to provide recreation opportunities for children and their carers. All day parking will no longer be available at this site.
How will the school be impacted?
The area will no longer have all day car parking available.
How will neighbouring residents be impacted?
During construction there will be some disruptions including noise from excavation machinery and contractors working in the reserve may be parking vehicles in the streets. There will be no disruptions to power supply or the need to close roads.
Who is undertaking the works?
The design will be undertaken by Council’s Landscape Design Team and the construction will be undertaken by one of Council’s preferred landscape contractors.
What happens after this survey?
All information gathered from this survey will be considered
in the design of the park. A concept plan will be developed and people will
have the opportunity to comment on this design during another round of
consultation.
From the design brief, the following timeline applies:
