Concept design and consolidation - Cooper Street Reserve and Naranga Avenue Reserve Playgrounds, Engadine

Cooper Street Reserve all-abilities playground
The upgraded playground at Cooper Street Reserve opened in June 2024. We know our community has been enjoying this exciting new space since it opened and that makes us jump with joy!
We’re excited to share that Council will be continuing work on the recently upgraded Cooper Street Reserve all-abilities playground, to provide an even more connected, inclusive and unique open space for our community.
We’ve developed a concept design for Cooper Street Reserve playground which includes:
- a sensory quiet space
- a wheelchair swing
- additional play equipment for all-abilities
- combination of synthetic grass and rubber to the main play areas
- new accessible furniture including additional picnic settings and seating
- accessible walking paths to improve accessibility and connection
- enhanced landscaping and tree planting to complement the playground.
Consolidation with Naranga Avenue Reserve playground, Engadine
Naranga Avenue Reserve, Engadine is located less than a 5 minute walk (360 metres) from Cooper Street Reserve and includes a single swing set.
Council’s Play Strategy highlights the need for playgrounds to be fairly distributed across Sutherland Shire with a local playground within 10 minutes’ walk from most homes.
Council has identified that the existing swing set at Naranga Reserve has limited play value, visibility and can result in anti-social behaviour. It is also at the end of its serviceable life.
This provides an opportunity to review the suitability of a playground at this location. We’re proposing to consolidate this playground with the new all-abilities playground 360 metres away at Cooper Street Reserve. All homes within Engadine will continue to have walkable access to a playground.
The proposed changes include:
- continuing upgrade work at Cooper Street Reserve playground focusing on additional play equipment and accessibility.
- consolidating the playground at Naranga Avenue Reserve with the playground at Cooper Street Reserve and restoring Naranga Avenue Reserve to open space.

Next steps
