Concept Design - Oak Park and Shelly Beach Buildings Renewal

Following consultation with the local community, Council is pleased to provide an update on the heritage-significant buildings renewal at Oak Park and Shelly Beach in Cronulla.

These iconic buildings are much-loved by locals and visitors alike, and we want to make sure they continue to serve the community well into the future, while retaining their heritage value and character.

Proposed concept designs have been developed, incorporating feedback we received from our community.

The draft design includes:

  • Upgraded amenities at Oak Park and Shelly Beach Pavilions, including toilets, showers, and changing rooms
  • New accessible paths linking the Esplanade to both upper and lower levels of each Pavilion
  • Updated lighting and security features
  • Incorporating new lightweight roofing for the open areas of each Pavilion
  • Landscaping and planting.

At Oak Park we’ve also extended the scope based on community feedback to include:

  • renewal of the stairs and platform south of the Pavilion
  • relocation of the outdoor shower.

At Shelly Beach, the draft design also includes:

  • A new, compliant ramp for the Shelly Beach Ocean Pool
  • A larger, fully inclusive changing area with a Changing Places facility at the existing Dressing Shelter site
  • Renewing the roof and internal layout of the Picnic Shelter for better accessibility
  • Improved accessible pathways connecting the Esplanade to all buildings and the ocean pool, meeting current standards.

The renewal of these areas will ensure they are restored, making them safe, compliant, as well as more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
