Can the location of the playground be changed within Gunnamatta Park?

There are limited locations within the park for a playground due to existing trees as well as slope and accessibility of the area. The proposal to keep the playground at its current location aligns with the Gunnamatta Park Masterplan 2010.

    Is Gunnamatta Park Heritage listed?

Yes, Gunnamatta Park is host to several locally significant heritage buildings including the Gunnamatta Pavilion, Electrical substation and picnic shelters. The site is also significant for its cultural heritage values (Aboriginal and European) and for its remnant, indigenous vegetation. The proposed playground renewal project will acknowledge and respect these heritage values.

When will work start at Gunnamatta Park playground?

We expect work to start on the playground upgrade in the first half of 2027.

Will the new playground impact existing trees?

The new playground won’t impact existing trees. To ensure a safe area, we will undergo maintenance on surrounding trees and ensure the area continues to have a natural shade canopy.

What are Council’s plans for Gunnamatta Pavilion?

Council has prepared a concept design for the Gunnamatta Pavilion upgrade. We are seeking community feedback for this much loved and iconic building in the Sutherland Shire. You can find out more and have your say on our project page (insert link), or meet with us in person at one of our information sessions - we'll be covering both the Pavilion and playground.
