What is a community garden?
It is a garden that is accessible to everyone to grow food and other plants, to share information on gardening and environmental practices and to meet like-minded people. They are self-managed by a not-for-profit incorporated entity on land owned or managed by Council, excluding the road reserve.

Community Gardens are popular because they provide members of the community the opportunity to socially interact and to work together in open spaces in their local area
Who manages community gardens?
Community Gardens are non-for profit and are operated by members of the community by way of an established incorporated entity.
The incorporated entity is formed at the outset and roles and responsibilities are clearly defined relating to management, operation and maintenance of the gardens.
Who is responsible for the costs for the ongoing operation of the gardens?
Any costs associated with the ongoing operation of the community garden are funded by the community incorporated entity.
When is Council proposing to make available community gardens?
At the completion of the consultation period Council will make recommendations to secure suitable parcels of land for community gardens in the Sutherland Shire. It is anticipated this will take place in 2021.
