FAQs
Why is Council proposing to relocate the playground within Australia Road Bushland Reserve?
The existing playground at Australia Road is in need of renewal. This provides an opportunity to review the suitability of a playground at this location.
Council’s service standards for local playgrounds include short-stay playgrounds which focus on play for a single age group (usually younger children) within 10 minutes walk from most homes.
The site at Australia Road is challenging to deliver these service standards given the lack of sight lines and isolated location.
In order to improve accessibility, play opportunities and ensure the playground can be used by more people in our local community, Council are proposing to relocate the playground to another location within the Reserve.
Are there any locations for the playground other than location A and B?
There are no other suitable locations nearby for a playground. Location A and B were chosen as they are open grassed areas, have clear sight lines and safe access from the road.
Can the playground be larger if it's being relocated?
The existing playground at Australia Road is a local playground for short-stays which focuses on play for a single age group. The renewed playground will also be a local playground meeting the same requirements.
There is limited scope to provide a larger playground with a greater range of play equipment at Australia Road due to site constraints. The renewed playground will include play equipment such as slides, climbing equipment and swings plus additional seating, waste bins and drinking fountain (subject to services on the site).
Can the existing playground at Australia Road stay as well as the new playground?
The playground at Australia Road is at the end of its life and needs to be renewed. When the new playground is constructed, Council will decommission the existing playground.
