Playground renewal - Australia Road Bushland Reserve, Barden Ridge
Consultation period: 12 May to 2 June 2023
The playground at Australia Road Bushland Reserve, Barden Ridge is due for renewal. We understand the existing playground site lacks passive surveillance with limited visibility from the street, resulting in anti-social behaviour and repeat instances of vandalism.
The trees and vegetation between the playground and Australia Road are part of an Endangered Ecological Community and are unable to be altered. As a result, we are reviewing the suitability of the existing playground location.
Council is proposing two new alternative locations within the Reserve for the renewed playground. Both locations are well-suited for a local playground and have clear visibility from the street.
The two proposed locations are:
- Proposed Location A: Australia Road further to the east of the existing playground.
- Proposed Location B: David Road on the southern side of the Reserve.
The proposed changes include:
- Re-locating the playground from its current location to either proposed location A or B within Australia Road Bushland Reserve, Barden Ridge
- Building a new local playground at one of the proposed locations with an increased range of play equipment (climbing, sliding and swinging elements)
- Decommissioning the existing playground and restoring the area.
