FAQs
Why is Council preparing a Public Domain Plan for Jannali Town Centre?
We are committed to supporting the success and sustainability of our town centres. Council endorsed a Public Domain Strategy in 2023 that outlines the key outcomes and approaches for things like verges, public toilets, street tree planting, attracting people to town centres, street lighting and signage.
Developing a Public Domain Plan for Jannali Town Centre is one of the key priorities in the Strategy. The Plan will provide a prioritised list of actions that Council will implement in Jannali.
What is ‘public domain’?
‘Public domain’ refers to footpath and verge areas in streets, as well as structured gathering places, such as retail centre pavements.
Will the Public Domain Plan consider improvements to traffic and parking?
Council is carrying out a pedestrian, parking and traffic survey to analyse the transport demands of the Jannali Town Centre. The review will help Council identify any existing issues and make informed decisions on any potential traffic and parking improvements.
What consultation with the community has been done so far?
In 2020 we asked the community for input to help make Sutherland Shire’s town centres better places to live, work and shop. The results of that consultation can be found here.
Further consultation was carried out in 2021, with in-person surveys conducted specifically about Jannali Town Centre.
We are seeking feedback again in 2024 to understand what really matters to our community now and how values may have changed.
I heard there was a development planned for the Woolworths supermarket and Council car park. How will that affect the Jannali Town Centre Public Domain Plan?
An application for the Woolworths development has not yet been submitted to Council.
Any future development within Jannali Town Centre will adhere to location-specific guidance for the design of Jannali’s streetscapes. These are specified in Council’s Public Domain Design and Technical Manuals.
Will the Public Domain Plan include any proposed changes to planning controls or rezoning in the Centre?
Public domain plans focus on retail centres and their public spaces. It includes works carried out on streets, parks, roads, drainage, footpaths, landscaping and other public spaces. Public domain works can also relate to works on private property that have an effect on the public domain. The Jannali Public Domain Plan will not include proposed changes to planning controls or rezoning in the Centre.
