Temporary closure of Gannons Road and Denman Ave intersection

Consultation has concluded

UPDATE: As a result of the feedback we received, especially concerns raised about this occurring whilst roadworks are also underway on Captain Cook Drive, a decision was made to not proceed with a full closure. Instead, the work will be undertaken outside peak traffic times over a longer period. VIew the Community Notification located on the right hand side of this page for more details.

Following the consultation about the pedestrian refuge, Council will be proceeding with construction.

Sutherland Shire Council is upgrading the existing intersection of Gannons Road and Denman Avenue, as part of Transport for NSW’s proposal to improve the local traffic conditions.

To minimise the duration of disruption and for the safety of workers and the public, Council is proposing to temporarily close the intersection of Gannons Road and Denman Avenue for a period of three weeks starting in early January 2020. The work is planned during the school holidays to minimise the inconvenience.

DETOUR

A detour for motorists travelling from Kingsway to Captain Cook Drive will be provided via Taren Point Road, Caringbah or via Franklin Road and Woolooware Road, Woolooware. Access for residents of Gannons Road and Denman Avenue will be maintained and pedestrian access will remain open during the road closure.

PEDESTRIAN REFUGE

A new pedestrian refuge is also planned to be built midway along Gannons Road to connect the pedestrian access on either side of the road. The location being proposed is the most suitable as it maximises visibility of pedestrians and avoids drainage lines. The pedestrian refuge has been designed to minimise the loss of on-street parking, in accordance with RMS standards.

The location of the detour and pedestrian refuge is shown in the map to the right of this page. Click here to view.
