What is happening with the Sutherland to Cronulla Active Transport Link (SCATL)?

Planning is underway for the Kirrawee to Cronulla section of the Sutherland to Cronulla Active Transport Link (SCATL), a pedestrian and bicycle pathway connecting key destinations in Sutherland Shire. Council is continuing plans for the new park as Transport for NSW finalises the SCATL path.

The concept desgn map for the new park shows a potential route for the SCATL.

Will there be a playground in the reserve?

The concept design for the new park does not include a playground. This is because there is already a significant playground at Biddy Giles Park a short walk away, and another local playground on Flora Street.

In order to cater to a broad range of users and abilities, the concept design proposes fitness equipment in this location because there are no other fitness facilities within close walking distance of the local area. The closest is Acacia Road Sutherland. Whilst fitness equipment does not cater to children specifically, it is used by children, youth and adults alike.

A small loop path has been incorporated into the design for small children to ride bikes and scooters.

Is the Kirrawee shopping centre getting any upgrades?

Yes Council is starting work in late April 2021 on seating and new planted areas as part of the Kirrawee Centre Revitalisation Project. The reamining work will be done in stages over the next 12-24 months. You can read more information in the Community Notification for Kirrawee in the 'Key Documents' section of this site.
