Why is the playground being renewed?

Our community strongly values open spaces. Council provides more than 140 playgrounds in the Sutherland Shire and our aim is to ensure that play facilities are modern, fun and safe spaces for everyone to enjoy.

The playground at Como Pleasure Grounds has been identified for renewal to ensure it meets the service standards outlined in Council's Play Strategy.

    When will work start?

It is expected that work will start at Como Pleasure Grounds in mid 2025.

I've heard Council may replace Como Pool with a water-play park. What are the next steps?

As part of Council's draft Leisure Centre Strategy and Implementation Plan, our Leisure Services team recommended investigating the feasibility of replacing Como Pool with a zero-depth water-play park as the current pool reaches the end of its useful life.

The Strategy will be considered by the elected Councillors at an upcoming meeting. If the Strategy is adopted, the next steps for Como Pool would include a feasibility assessment, which will be a more detailed review of the current pool and potential future opportunities. These studies typically explore and assess a range of options and seek community feedback on preferred options or alternative suggestions for Council to investigate.

Any potential changes to Como Pool will be considered as we plan for the renewal of the Como Pleasure Grounds playground.
