Planning for Oyster Bay Waterway Management

Planning for Oyster Bay Waterway Management

Oyster Bay and its surrounding waterways are much loved in the Sutherland Shire and enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. These areas are vital to our community, providing both recreational enjoyment and natural beauty. Proactive and sustainable management of the catchment and its tributaries is essential to protect and enhance this cherished area.

To support this, Council is preparing a Waterway Management Plan, to inform how the catchment is used, managed and monitored moving forward.

The study area for the Plan encompasses the Oyster Bay Catchment including Oyster Creek and Kareela Creek. Council has engaged Rhelm Pty Ltd to support us deliver this important plan for Oyster Bay.

As we develop the Plan, we are actively engaging with our community to understand what is important to you. We will gather feedback on how the waterway is used, its social and environmental values, and any concerns or ideas you may have. This input, along with our research on the health of the waterway, will help shape a management strategy that reflects the needs and interests of our community, while ensuring the waterway remains healthy and enjoyable for all.

Have your say

Your feedback, along with our research on waterway health, will help shape a strategy that balances community needs and ensures the ongoing enjoyment and health of the waterways.

We are seeking your feedback to better understand how you value and experience Oyster Bay. You can provide feedback until Monday 31 March 2025:

  • Online by completing the survey below or completing the Places map activity.
  • In person by attending our drop-in information session between 4pm and 7pm on 13 March at the Oyster Bay Community Hall
  • Email to OysterBayWaterway@rhelm.com.au
  • Phone 0448 127 672 between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Next Steps

Community feedback received during this initial consultation period will be reviewed and considered as we prepare a draft Waterway Management Plan for Oyster Bay.

The draft Plan will go to the elected Council for endorsement and then be made publicly available for feedback from the community.

We expect the draft Plan to be on public exhibition in the second half of 2025. We will keep our community updated as the project progresses.
