The Draft Camellia Gardens Grey-headed Flying-fox Camp Management Plan

Consultation has concluded

Sutherland Shire Council has prepared a draft Camp Management Plan (CMP) for the grey-headed flying-fox camp located at E.G. Waterhouse National Camellia Gardens in Caringbah South.

This camp was first formally recorded in July 2016, and since then only grey-headed flying-foxes have occupied the site. It is not yet clear yet if this is a permanent camp, but it has been occupied the majority of days since July 2016. The number of flying-foxes has ranged from 10 to 2000 over this time.

Council is seeking your feedback and assistance in prioritising the proposed actions to best manage the camp and mitigate any perceived or potential effects on the community.

The objectives of this CMP are to:

  • Manage potential conflict between Camellia Gardens users and flying-foxes and their habitat
  • Manage and minimise public health and safety risks
  • Manage the flying foxes and their habitat to protect special planting and cultural aspects of the gardens

The draft plan is available in the document library to the right. Hard copies of the plans are available to view at Council's Customer Service Centre and at Caringbah and Sutherland Public Libraries.
