Council is committed to protecting the environment from pollution across our beaches, parks and waterways. Plastic pollution is a growing source of harm to our natural environment.
We have prepared a draft Single-Use Plastics Policy and a draft Action Plan outlining our commitment to reducing single-use plastics (SUPs) across our operations, events and activities.
The framework will support NSW and Australian Government legislation relating to targets and bans on SUPs, including the NSW Plastic Plan.
It would apply to all Council employees and contractors employed by Council at our events and facilities.
Guided by our Waste Management Strategy, Council has already implemented a range of initiatives to reduce or eliminate SUPs across our operations. Some examples are offering a range of recycling options for commonly used plastic products, providing water bubblers at large-scale Council events and using biodegradable litter bags. The Action Plan addresses actions we will take over the next 4 years to further improve our practices.

Following community consultation, Council will review and consider all feedback. Some changes may be made to the policy and plan. It will then be finalised and reported to Council for adoption in late 2026. We will keep interested members of the community updated.
