Draft LEP 2015 Amendment - Reclassification of North Cronulla Surf Lifesaving Club

Cronulla view

Council is proposing to amend the Sutherland Shire Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2015 to reclassify its North Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club from ‘community land’ to ‘operational land’. A reclassification of land will have significant community benefit as it will enable an important community funded project delivering improved lifesaving services to proceed with greater certainty.

The reclassification relates to the land occupied by the North Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club building only and does not impact Dunningham Park.

Having now taken over the redevelopment of North Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club, it is important for Council to ensure that the facility meets current and future needs of the community, and that the redevelopment comes at no net cost to ratepayers. The reclassification of the land will support Council to achieve that through more flexible leasing arrangements.

The decision to proceed with the reclassification was made by Council in July 2024. The full Council report has been provided in the 'Documents' section on this page, along with the Planning Proposal Documents.

It is expected the public hearing will be held in late May 2025 and details will be updated following the public exhibition period.

Next steps

Following community consultation, Council will review and consider all feedback and prepare a report for elected Councillors. The Local Environmental Plan will be amended if the proposal is supported.
