Proposed Como Heritage and Environment Trail

Consultation has concluded

The proposed Como Heritage and Environment Trail is a 4.3km walking route around the Como peninsula, through the local streets and Paruna Reserve bushland, which aims to celebrate the history, local environment, heritage and stories from the area.

The Trail was identified in the Conservation and Management Plan for Como Peninsula as a way to enhance the area for the community to enjoy, and will be the first of its kind in Sutherland Shire.

Those interested in local history and walking in the great outdoors will love the Trail being developed (see map of Trail route overleaf). The Trail has been classified as an easy walk (grade 1-2) with the sections through Paruna Reserve grade 3. Directional markers will keep walkers on track and eight interpretative signs detail the history of the Como Pleasure Grounds, Como Hotel, Como Rail Bridge and Station. Walkers will also be able to read two local Aboriginal stories and find out about the time famous Australian writer Henry Lawson spent in Como.

In addition to this, we’re working on a virtual tour from our website where you can look at historical photos we have uncovered, learn about local Aboriginal stories and read the full heritage report.

The Trail is sure to become a valuable asset for children, walking groups or any member of our community to explore our local history.

WE’RE AFTER YOUR FEEDBACK ON THE PROPOSED TRAIL
Do you think it’s a good way to celebrate the history of this area? Have your say today.

Submissions will be accepted until Friday 7 December 2018.
