Proposal to name the reserve at 422 Captain Cook Drive, Greenhills Beach "Don Dobie Reserve"
Consultation has concluded.
In response to a recommendation made by the Geographical Names Board, Council has resolved to undertake further community consultation to name the reserve located at 422 Captain Cook Drive, Greenhills Beach “Don Dobie Reserve.” The reserve, which includes the wetlands, boardwalk and amenities structures, does not currently have an assigned geographic name.
The name “Don Dobie Reserve” has been proposed to recognise the contributions of the late The Hon. James Donald Mathieson “Don” Dobie (28.7.1927 – 25.11.1996). The Hon. Don Dobie was a member of the Australian Parliament between 1966 and 1996 and was renowned for his active involvement in the community.
In its meeting on 16 September 2016, Council resolved to endorse the previous decision to name the reserve "Don Dobie Reserve," and undertake consultation with the community prior to making a formal submission to the Geographical Names Board.
