Consultation has concluded

Image of posposed location of basketball shooting key

Council recognises the growing popularity of outdoor basketball and the need for these facilities in our community. Council is exploring a number of options for the provision of these facilities across the Sutherland Shire.

Stage Two - Consultation open from 21 May 2020 to 4 June 2020

Council has received strong representations from the community regarding the need for an outdoor basketball facility in the Menai/Bangor area.

Council has investigated a number of locations for a proposed outdoor basketball half court in parks and reserves. Parc Menai, located at 279 Menai Road, is a regional park that currently offers a skate park, playground, BBQ, picnic facilities and large turf area for passive recreation. Council is working to ensure our regional parks cater to a broad range of ages and recreational interests.

The proposed location within Parc Menai, indicated by the orange box in the image above, is proposed for the following reasons:

  • minimises impact on the environment
  • minimises impact on existing users
  • minimises impact on events and park activations

Before proceeding to detailed design Council would like your feedback on the proposed location.

We welcome your comments on the proposal, feedback can be submitted using the online survey form below.

Stage one - Consultation completed December 2018

We sought the views of local residents on the installation of a basketball shooting key within Parc Menai. But, before we invested in a basketball shooting key facility we wanted to know if this new installation will result in increased use of Parc Menai for the community.

The closing date for consultation was Sunday, 2 December 2018.
