Draft Oyster Bay Waterways Management Plan
Consultation held between 12 September and 26 October 2025 has now closed.
Background
Oyster Bay and its surrounding waterways are special places in the Sutherland Shire. They’re where we go to relax, enjoy nature, and spend time on, and around, the water.
To keep these waterways in good shape, for us and for future generations—we need a plan.
Council engaged Rhelm Pty Ltd to prepare the Waterways Management Plan which sets out how we’ll manage, monitor, and improve the Oyster Bay catchment, which includes Oyster Creek and Kareela Creek.
The supporting Dredging Management Plan explores dredging options to manage sand and silt build-up and shallow areas in Oyster Bay.
As part of the consultation, we asked what matters most to you, how you use the waterways, what you value, and any concerns or ideas you had. Your input, combined with scientific studies, has shaped a balanced strategy that looks after both community needs and the environment.
Together, these plans will help keep Oyster Bay a healthy and vibrant place for everyone to enjoy.
We have also prepared a short explainer video which provides the key elements of the draft Oyster Bay Waterways Plan and Dredging Management Plan.
