Expression of Interest - Floodplain Risk Management Sub-Committee

Council is seeking expressions of interest from the community to become members of its Floodplain Risk Management Sub-Committee.

The Sub-Committee’s role is to assist Council in the development of a Floodplain Risk Management Plan which sets out the strategic and statutory functions of Council in relation to the management of flood prone land across all of the Sutherland Shire. The Committee will meet approximately four times per year, or as determined by the chairperson. Its role is advisory in nature and is a Sub-Committee of Council.

The Sub-Committee provides an important link between Council and the local community and provides input on a range of matters from flood behaviour to education and implementation initiatives.

It is important that we have community members participating in the Sub-Committee as they have a good understanding of local impacts and effective communication networks in flood affected catchments.

Currently the Sub-Committee has two vacant positions and are seeking expressions of interest:

  • 1 community member from the Woronora River catchment
  • 1 community member from the Kurnell township catchment.

A copy of the Sub-Committee Charter can be found here. To find out more about Floodplain Risk Management visit Council's website - Floodplain Risk Management | Sutherland Shire Council (nsw.gov.au).

The selection criteria for Sub-Committee community representatives are:

  • Demonstration of connection and links to their geographic community or community of interest (as appropriate)
  • Demonstration of awareness in relation to flood risk management issues.

If you would like to nominate for a community representative position on the Sub-Committee, please complete the Nomination Application form here and email to secretaryshireinfrastructure@ssc.nsw.gov.au by 5pm on Thursday 23 November 2023.
