Council is proposing to name a parcel of land in Woronora "Norm Dixon Reserve" in honour of the late Norman Dixon.
Norm was a leader in the Woronora community who passed away on 11 May 2021, aged 90. He is survived by his wife Betty Dixon, their six children and 21 grandchildren.
The proposed area for naming is a narrow area of land that runs through The Crescent, Woronora, approximately 300m in length (See Map). It includes remnant bushland and an open space grass area near Prince Edward Park Road known locally as “The Crescent Village Green”.
Given Norm's dedication to supporting environmental and community initiatives in Woronora, it is considered relevant to name this area in his honour.
Norm was an advocate for preserving the Woronora Valley's natural environment and its local community from inappropriate development, often attending Council meetings to put his case forward. He was President of the Woronora Valley Residents Association for many decades and actively involved in the local Bushcare group, Woronora Life Saving and River Patrol Club and Woronora Bush Fire Brigade.
