Consultation period: 26 March – 28 April 2026.
In consultation with key stakeholders, Council is proposing to officially name the reserve off Liffey Place Woronora (Lots 13R &15R), as Dulumunmun Dreaming Place. The naming proposal is in honour of the late First Nations Elder Uncle Max Dulumunmun Harrison. Please click here to see a map of the area.
Uncle Max was deeply connected to Country and devoted his life to sharing First Nations’ culture, spirituality and wisdom. A respected cultural educator and community leader, he founded the much-loved annual Sunset Cultural Ceremony in Woronora and was a mentor to First Nations youth. He was widely known for his engaging storytelling at local schools where he shared knowledge of Creation Dreaming, bush lore and cultural practices.
Uncle Max also generously volunteered as a cultural guide, leading walks and talks along Woronora River and led whale watching and singing-up ceremonies across the Sutherland Shire.
His books, My People’s Dreaming and Gurawul the Whale, reflect his profound cultural knowledge and connection to Country. Uncle Max’s legacy continues through his writing and the lasting impact he made within the local community and beyond.
