Naming Proposal: Margaret Corbett Netball Complex

Consultation period: 2 February - 1 March 2026

Council is proposing to officially name the Bellingara Netball Complex at 99-105 Bellingara Road, Miranda ‘Margaret Corbett Netball Complex’ in honour of the late Margaret Corbett OAM (29/11/1929 – 01/07/2025).

Margaret Corbett was a pioneering figure in netball, whose influence spanned more than six decades across international, national and community levels. Her legacy is deeply rooted in the Sutherland Shire where she championed the development of netball and nurtured generations of players and officials.

She was instrumental in shaping coaching standards across Australia. As the NSW State Opens Coach, Margaret led her teams to an unprecedented nine Golden Boot victories between 1984 and 1993. Her dedication saw her travel extensively, conducting camps, coaching clinics, and school programs throughout Australia and overseas.

In recognition of her lifelong service to netball, Margaret was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 2013. She was also named Cronulla Woman of the Year in 2020.

Margaret Corbett’s passion, leadership and commitment continue to inspire the Sutherland Shire netball community.

Following community feedback on the proposed naming of the Bellingara Netball Complex as the ‘Margaret Corbett Netball Complex’, Council will review and consider next steps. The Naming Proposal will then go to Council for adoption. If supported, the complex will be officially named the 'Margaret Corbett Netball Complex'.
