Policies Under Review - March 2025

Consultation period: 19 March 2025 - 15 April 2025

Council has reviewed and updated the following policies and would like your feedback:

Drainage Easements Policy Review

Council has reviewed and updated the Drainage Easements Policy (previously named the Release and Relocation of Drainage Easements Policy).

The updated policy will inform private landowners who request to relocate Council drainage infrastructure located on their land, usually to facilitate development.

Key revisions to the Drainage Easements Policy are:

  • Enhancements to reflect a broader range of easement dealings over drainage infrastructure.
  • Broader guidance in drainage easement matters, including when requests should be supported or pursued.

Sea Level Rise Policy Review

Council has updated its existing Sea Level Rise Policy to align with current research and studies.

The Sea Level Rise Policy is a framework that assists Council and the community to respond to emerging sea level rise risks within the Sutherland Shire.

Council considers sea level rise when determining development applications and when preparing planning proposals, policies, flood studies, floodplain risk management studies and plans, and coastal management programs.
