Council, at its meeting of 20 August 2018, resolved “That Council engage with Engadine residents, bike riders and the wider community on the possible use of alternative sites for bike riding activities currently taking place in Geelong Road Reserve/Geneva Place Reserve, Engadine” and a survey was made available for a four week period from 7 September through to 7 October for community members to provide feedback on five potential alternative sites in Engadine.
As part of this consultation, Council held drop in sessions at each of the five identified locations, and sent letters to advise residents within 100 metres of each site, as well as held workshops with students at Marton Public School. At the conclusion of the community engagement period, Council had received 137 responses to the survey, in addition to 17 emails, four letters and two phone calls to provide feedback.
We thank all those community members who took the time to provide their feedback on the potential impacts, benefits and concerns of the identified locations. Your feedback was considered as part of the final decision, and it was considered that the most appropriate new site for informal bike use was Kingswood Road Oval. In addition to receiving the most submissions in support of its use for bike riding, Kingswood was also selected due to its proximity to the local school, vegetation buffer between adjoining properties, and the overall existing sporting culture.
Council will continue to monitor any impacts of the use of this location on the area.
Thank you for your contribution to helping your community continue to live active lives connected to nature.
