Draft Management Plan for Temporary and Seasonal Flying-Fox Camps
Consultation has concluded
The Grey-headed Flying-fox (GHFF) is a threatened species, which means they are at risk of becoming extinct in the medium-term future. Population numbers have significantly declined in recent times due to habitat reduction or loss. Their role as pollinators and seed dispersers is critical and, due to loss of habitat, they are increasingly roosting in urban areas.
GHFF have three locations in the Sutherland Shire area which they permanently call 'home'. These camps include Kareela, Camellia Gardens and the Desalination Plant camp. We have confirmed Management Plans for these permanent camps which support both our community members and our resident flying-foxes.
On the occasion that our flying-foxes find a temporary or seasonal home, we are looking to establish a Management Plan to guide and determine how we respond to these camps.
Accordingly, Sutherland Shire Council is seeking community feedback on its Draft Management Plan for Temporary and Seasonal Flying-Fox Camps. Please share your thoughts and feedback through two key channels until Tuesday 29 June 2021:
