Draft Events and Activations Plan

Consultation period: 26 June - 28 July 2025

Events and activations play an important role in enhancing the cultural and economic vitality of our community.

To help guide how we plan for local to large events in Sutherland Shire, we’ve developed a Draft Events and Activations Plan 2026-2030.

Informed by community feedback earlier this year, the Plan shares our vision for events under four key focus areas:

• Inclusive and meaningful event experiences
• Vibrant public spaces
• Visitor economy and economic growth
• Safe, sustainable and future-ready events.

The plan outlines our current events landscape, strengths, challenges and specific actions to help enhance our events, for example through:

• Enabling event-ready spaces via infrastructure improvements, streamlined approvals and place planning
• Exploring funding, sponsorship and grant stream options for events
• Planning for more inclusive and evenly distributed events across Sutherland Shire
• Developing a range of policies to guide how we eg. reduce environmental impact from events, or bid for large-scale destination events
• Improving how we measure the economic impact, social value and community response to events.
