Draft Biodiversity Strategy

Biodiversity is the variety of plants, animals, habitats and ecosystems that support life around us.

Our bushland, waterways, coastline, parks, backyards and treelined streets influence how we experience place, connect us with Country, provide cooling and flood protection, filter pollution, support clean air and water, and contribute to our physical and mental wellbeing.

Urban growth, climate change, habitat loss and fragmentation, pollution and ecosystem degradation are making it more difficult for natural and urban systems to stay healthy, regenerative and resilient. Without action, these pressures may intensify over time.

About the Strategy

The Draft Biodiversity Strategy is our long-term approach that outlines how Council aims to protect and restore natural areas, strengthen urban habitat connections, and support healthier ecosystems over time.

The draft Strategy is built around three connected key areas, Protect, Connect and Celebrate, each supported by priorities to guide future biodiversity conservation, action and implementation.
