Dogs on-leash: Woolooware Bay Shared Pathway

Person walking dog with leash

Consultation period: 6 April to 27 April 2022

Sutherland Shire Council is seeking community feedback on the option of permitting dogs to be walked on-leash on a one kilometre section of the Woolooware Bay Shared Pathway.

Dogs would need to be on-leash and under control at all times on the pathway between Atkinson Road in the south to Shorebird Reserve in the north (view Map).

A range of protection and mitigation measures identified in a Review of Environmental Factors (REF) Addendum would also need to be implemented if this option is adopted. These measures include:

  • Improved education and signage about endangered shorebirds
  • No-go zones for dogs within important areas of habitat
  • Installation of mesh screening along the boardwalk railing to block the sight of dogs from the shorebirds

Learn more about the 10 mitigation measures recommended to minimise potential impacts on the Taren Point Shorebird Community under FAQs.

The REF Addendum independently investigated the potential direct and indirect impacts of dogs on-leash on the Taren Point Shorebird Community in this area. Read the full report under Document Library.
