What is the draft Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Framework?
The DEI Framework is Council’s overarching guide for embedding inclusion across our organisational culture, services and community outcomes. It sets out Council’s principles, commitments and approach to ensuring all people feel respected, safe and valued both as employees and as members of the community.
Why has Council developed this Framework?
Council is committed to creating an inclusive and equitable environment for the community and the people we employ. Council develops a broad range of strategies and plans that are focused on ensuring we approach our work with a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. This framework will continue to guide the development of strategies and plans into the future.
How will the Framework be used?
The DEI Framework acts as a unifying charter that guides and aligns Council’s diversity-related strategies and plans. This includes the Disability Inclusion Action Plan, Reconciliation Action Plan, Multicultural Action Plan, Workforce Strategy, anti‑racism actions and other inclusion-focused policies. It ensures that diversity, equity and inclusion principles are consistently applied across planning, service delivery, decision-making and workplace culture at Council.
What are the key principles in the Framework?
The Framework is built around six core principles that describe what Council stands for and how we act. These include:
Each principle is supported by commitment statements and practical examples of inclusive behaviours.
