Deeban Spit

Consultation has concluded

Note: Opportunities for further submissions to the State Government on the Marine Park proposal have now closed. Information gathered from this current consultation will be used to inform future submissions on the management of this area, as the opportunity arises.

Council is seeking community feedback on the management and usage of the intertidal sand flats and sea grass beds to the west of Deeban Spit in the Port Hacking estuary.

As part of the State Government consultation on the management and usage of Marine Parks in the Sydney region, Council had the opportunity to provide comments on the management of waterways within the Sutherland Shire.

In considering the range of uses in the area to the west of the Deeban Spit, Council resolved to undertake community consultation to seek broad community views on usage of the area. The community feedback received will inform Council's future submissions to the NSW Government.

It is important to note, that while Council may make future submissions on behalf of the community, the ultimate decision in relation to extent and management of Marine Parks lies with the State Government.

Further details on the intertidal area to the west of the Deeban Spit can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions and Map on the right.
