What is the Community Strategic Plan (CSP)?

A Community Strategic Plan is a ten-year plan that identifies the community’s main priorities and aspirations for the future and sets out strategies to achieve these goals.

The CSP sits at the top of Council’s strategic planning framework and integrates with other key Council plans and policies providing long-term direction for Council.  The CSP also responds to state, metropolitan and regional plans and priorities relevant to the Sutherland Shire.

Why is the Community Strategic Plan being reviewed?

A review of the CSP allows us to check in with the community to make sure we are on the right track and to ensure the community’s priorities are reflected in the CSP.

With the upcoming Council election, we are required under the Local Government Act 1993 to review the CSP.  Any changes to the CSP must be endorsed by the Council by 30 June 2022.

How will the Plan be developed?

The CSP is developed through consultation with our community. This consultation includes input into the development of other strategies and plans, feedback from our recent Community Satisfaction Survey and specific feedback on your ideas for the CSP review.

We also gain input from State and Regional Plans, Australian Bureau of Statistics data and consultation with other community networks and groups.

How does Council implement the Community Strategic Plan?

The CSP is a plan for the entire Sutherland Shire community. Every government and non-government agency, community organisation and community member can play a part in realising the vision, goals and strategies in it.

Council translates the goals and strategies from the CSP into actions identified in other strategic documents including the four-year Delivery Program and annual Operational Plan.

Council is not solely responsible for delivering every goal and strategy of the CSP, instead we have an advocacy role and work in close collaboration with those other agencies, community organisations, and key stakeholders and partners to deliver the strategies outlined in the CSP.
